Michael-Louis Smith

Guitarist Michael-Louis Smith radiates positivity and brings amazing musicians and music-lovers together under the same beat.  Having first picked up the guitar at age 12, Michael first performed at 14 for a local crowd at Caffe Lena in Saratoga Springs.  At 16, Michael connected local and touring musicians for jam sessions at Smalls Jazz Club in NYC.  After learning mostly through osmosis, Michael studied at Purchase Conservatory under pianist James Weidman of Joe Lovano Us 5, and guitarist John Abercrombie of Brecker Brothers fame.  Since then he has formed his own bands Left Ear Trio and MLS Coalition, infusing his roots in jazz and classical with rock and funk.  Michael and his ensembles have toured nationally at major venues such as LA’s Troubadour Club, Discover Jazz Festival, Saratoga Jazz and Blues Festival, and Round Lake Jazz Festival. Having created his brand of soul music, Michael released his debut 2010 album Portrait of MLS. Drawing comparisons to jazz guitar legend Grant Green, Michael attracted critical acclaim for meshing his classic bebop chops with his modern soul sensibilities on the debut album (Albanyjazz.com).

Last year, Michael-Louis Smith and his bandmates backed Nigerian funk/soul star Nneka on her US tour, including a show this spring at the Apollo Theater in NYC.  “This was not your average concert,” wrote Musicvice.com on one of the band’s performances.  “The power and love emitting from the stage increased as Nneka and her talented band delivered wave after wave of rhythmic energy and soul,” the article continued. Fresh off the Nneka tour, Michael-Louis Smith will tour the east coast in support of his new album First Black Nation, which dropped May 28th on iTunes andAmazon.  The concept album is a multi-movement instrumental that tells a story about the 2010 Haiti Earthquake.  Michael’s US tour also marks his 10-year anniversary with bandmates Diallo House (bass), Ismail Lawal (drums), and Stacy Dillard (sax).  These longtime friends will treat crowds to a night of international styles, telepathic improvisation, and high energy.  For more information, like Michael on Facebook.

French Horn Rebellion (former client)

Brooklyn-based electro-rock duo French Horn Rebellion feature the talents of brothers David and Robert Perlick-Molinari. With a name inspired by the combination of David’s skills as a computer sound engineer and Robert having once been the first chair French horn player in the Northwestern University Symphony Orchestra, French Horn Rebellion make ’80s-influenced electronic pop with an often wry, campy sense of humor. Born and raised in Milwaukee, David and Robert eventually relocated to Brooklyn where David produced and engineered music for the similarly inclined outfit MGMT. In 2007, French Horn Rebellion released a self-titled independent album. In 2011, the duo released The Infinite Music of French Horn Rebellion on Once Upon a Time/V2 Records.
